The future importance of solar homes can not be overstated. As resources dwindle and energy prices rise, solar power is bound to become a vital part of a home’s energy needs. And as solar technology continues to advance this type of power source will become even more efficient.

Passive solar homes have been used for centuries. Even the ancient Greeks and Romans understood that building homes with southerly facing windows can help maintain a comfortable temperature inside year round. Passive solar technology can also be used to heat water for showers and swimming pools.

Active solar homes utilize the power of the sun to provide electricity for direct use. Photovoltaic panels can be used to generate enough electricity to power nearly every outlet and appliance in an average home. They can also be use to generate hot water as well.
